Gartner Places Nimble Storage in the Visionaries Quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Disk Arrays
Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute
San Jose, Calif. – Mar 26, 2013 – Nimble Storage, the leading provider of flash-optimized, hybrid storage solutions today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner in the Visionaries quadrant of the General-Purpose Disk Arrays Magic Quadrant authored by Roger W. Cox, Valdis Filks and Stanley Zaffos. The report, released on March 21, combines providers of general purpose high-end, midrange, and NAS or unified storage systems and positions these vendors into one of four quadrants, Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries and Niche Players. Nimble Storage was recognized as a visionary based on the company’s vision and ability to execute. View the full “Magic Quadrant for General Purpose Disk Arrays” report.
Nimble Storage continues to rapidly build upon its hybrid storage solution success record and its reputation for being an innovative and disruptive alternative to traditional storage solutions. As of the company’s fiscal year ending January 2013, the company sold over 2000 storage arrays to over 1,100 customers and achieved an annual bookings run rate over $100 million in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year. The company has also recently entered new markets through international expansion into Europe and Asia Pacific and has made investments in building out its executive leadership team. In August 2012, Nimble received $40.7 million in an over-subscribed mezzanine funding round led by Sequoia Capital and Accel Partners providing the funding to fuel its next phase of growth. To date, Nimble Storage has raised $98 million.
Recognizing an opportunity to redesign storage from the ground up, Nimble Storage developed its CASL architecture to enable Nimble Storage arrays to simultaneously deliver lightning-fast performance and cost-effective capacity. The Nimble Storage CS-Series is ideal for demanding workloads such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, server virtualization and VDI. Nimble solutions offer scale-to-fit flexibility that enables enterprises to accommodate growth by scaling capacity, or performance, or both—efficiently and non-disruptively.
“The legacy designs of enterprise storage vendors are unable to meet the needs of today’s datacenters,” said Suresh Vasudevan, chairman and CEO of Nimble Storage. “Nimble redesigned storage from the ground up, implementing a high-performance hybrid hard disk drive-plus-flash model that scales linearly and economically, giving customers a platform that supports today’s most demanding applications and can flexibly grow with their needs. As demonstrated by our growth in customers, Nimble has seen rapid adoption in midsize and large enterprises across a wide range of industries as well as with service providers. We’re proud to have been recognized by Gartner in this report.”
In addition to the performance, capacity and data protection advantages that Nimble Storage customers are familiar with, they benefit from built-in remote proactive support and wellness functionality.
“Efficiency, performance, data protection and scalability are the key attributes we evaluate when considering different storage choices for our Exchange and SharePoint Managed Services. Nimble Storage’s CS-Series delivers on all counts with its flash-optimized architecture. We were able to shrink our AMS storage foot print from 2 full racks to a mere 6 rack units with Nimble — while maintaining the same performance and removing the complexity of traditional data protection. Nimble Storage helps us deliver better services to our customers,” said Jason Parrott, manager of architecture and deployments, Avanade Managed Services (AMS).
Nimble’s relations with industry leaders such as VMware, Cisco, CommVault, Citrix, and Microsoft has enabled the delivery of integrated, validated solutions for various workloads, lowering the risk and eliminating deployment and management headaches with individual solutions. Nimble’s significant investment into integration with the VMware View Rapid Desktop Program (RDP) for pre-validated hosted virtual desktop configurations and the integration of CS-Series snapshots with CommVault‘s backup solution have all provided increased market traction and customer adoption.
